On this page is a photo of duplicate medals Henry was awarded for his service in WWII and Korea. His real medals were either lost or given away. Henry once said that he gave his medals away as they didn't mean anything to him. While they didn't mean anything to him, they do mean a lot to me, and to his family. These medals show Henry's sacrifice to his country and his heroism in the heat of battle.
Henry received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal and also a Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksman Badge with Rifle and a WWII Honorable Discharge Pin.
These duplicate medals were obtained by one of Henry's other nephews, my cousin, Lennis Schachtner. He showed the medals at the Buske family reunion in Aug. 2002. I would like to commend Lenny for his hard work in obtaining these medals and his help in researching Henry and Fred's military history. His presentation at the family reunion inspired me to begin my own research and to build this website.
